ONE DAY OR DAY ONE

There is almost everyday we tell ourselves the things we want to do but cannot for reasons best known to us. And then we heave a sigh of feeling burdened through the clutter in our head that has been created by? our own ‘piling on’ habit and say, “...one day!”

And then one fine another day, after you have gone through all those reasons (excuses) for not being able to do something, you realise there are not any more of them left. And suddenly, you just start doing what took you all your life - almost!

That 1st of January comes somewhere in June and that Monday you wanted starts on a Thursday. You also begin to realise that you don't have to push yourself to do it but you feel the pull towards the end result. It could be the number on the scale you've been chasing, but that suddenly doesn't matter one day. It could be that number you touch on your birthday (I am saying, age is just a number), but now it doesn't matter whether you are at that milestone or not. It could be that auspicious year that made you think, ‘now or never’, and then suddenly it shifts to ‘better now than later’.

Then you wonder, what changed? The excuses remain the same, the situation did not get any better and people weren't any different! What really changed?!

Something within you at some odd hour stirs your soul and moves your gut and you spring into action. No rhyme no reason, just a state of pure being, a being called YOU. It could be that movie you watched that called to action, it could be a song that added a bounce to your step, it could be a quote you saw while you browsed aimlessly on your social media or it could be an everyday event that occurred and got you thinking about you. Sometimes it could be one or a couple of the instances that pull you towards who you want to be and rarely, it can be all of these things that happen with the meeting of one person who introduces you to yourself and makes you want to be, not better, but more of you! The one who celebrates you, the one who accepts you, the one who knows you and the one who can make everything possible for you - that's YOU.

That day becomes your day one!

An intriguing and brilliant read Shwetha. So much said and so left to be said. I am totally looking forward to reading more from where this thought started. On another note, this reminds me of a line from one of my favorite Rage Against The Machine songs - Guerrilla Radio (from the 90's - Age is indeed just a number), the line goes; "It has to start somewhere, it has to start sometime. What better place than here, what better time than now?". P:S: Procrastination is for the mentally oppressed - either involuntarily or voluntarily.

A very thoughtful post, the one thing you bought up got me thinking!!! We build our self-worth from a limited number of sources, have you ever thought about that? Namely, close social environment - friends, distant social environment - colleagues, hobbies, sports, self-care, success at work, success in networking, success in hobbies, and so on. Now, imagine 95% of the mentioned sources no longer exist in your life. That’s the main issue, the moment you rely on one single source for your self-worth. The problem is that each source is responsible for giving us a puzzle piece of meaning in life - so only the completeness, the entire image, is capable of reflecting who we are. I believe procrastination results from an unbalanced lifestyle and insufficient resources for building stable self-worth.
