One Day before the great Black Out. The Chief says: go mobile for a flexible response.
The Chief has set direction. No Pico cells – he wants to focus Kymeta on mobility.
Mobility is the priority:
The Chief assessed his needs and decided a flexible response with mobile Wi-Fi calling would be the best strategy. The Pico strategy required that a Pico cell be placed in such a location as to not interfere with established cells. The idea was that Blue Light members would be “white listed” on to that Pico and always have access. Kymeta and AT&T were prepared to support this choice. AT&T rushed the portable systems to our RAV4. The Picos would backhaul through the Kymeta system using the Intelsat infrastructure. It was a good plan, but the Chief has different priorities.
The problem is that there is no way of determining beforehand where the trouble spots might be and placing Picos can require as much art as science. So, the Chief went with the Kymeta car as a mobile Wi-Fi calling spot. Trouble on freeway – send the Rav4. Trouble at the court house – send the Rav4 – trouble at the monuments – again, send the Rav4.
We are more than happy to accommodate the Chief's strategy.
Everyone is hoping for a wonderful science enthusiasm day tomorrow, but if anything untoward happens, our test bed is here to help.
Training:
There were a couple of funny exchanges about training, to which the answer was always: “it’s the internet.” Q: How do we make a phone call? A: Same way as you are doing it now – it’s a Wi-Fi call from your phone. Q: are there any special numbers? A: no, it is the internet. Q: do I need a satellite phone? A: no, it is the internet, just use your smart phone on Wi-Fi mode. Q: how do I get a browser? A: the same way you do now. Q: then we don’t actually need any training? A: correct, you don’t actually need any training. It’s just the internet.
Media Day:
Time: 12:00pm
Station: FOX Carolina
Journalist: Kayla Conboy
I look a bit like an orchestra leader, and her look says: is this guy for real? Actually Kayla was a lot of fun and it was a great interview. She was very focused on the safety aspects of our technology.
Time: 2:30pm
Station: WYFF News 4 (NBC Affiliate)
Journalist: Aubrey Jackson
Aubrey and the NBC crew were also a lot of fun. They completely understood the value and focused on commercial SUV availability. The pieces will air tonight on the local news and I hope to get a YouTube link up tomorrow.
Power House Visitor
Roger Lanctot, the chief analyst for Strategy Analytics, and his wife thought it would be fun to come down to Greenville and check out the eclipse. They made the decision today. And they found a great hotel. I like to think they came because he thought what Kymeta was doing with the Blue Lights was so cool, he had to see it for himself. He is a very important opinion-shaper in our business. Anyway, it will be fun to show him what we are doing.
The kids get to see what dad actually does for a living:
