The One With The Cops - Issue #3
I know... I know...
I'm a few days behind.
The past two weeks have been fast-paced and action-packed. I started last Thursday attending the SOLD Conference in NYC. I learned a lot and make great connections. Kristin Zmrhal from DISCO gave a masterclass in the future of tech for legal departments. I remember fireworks and a smoke machine... but I could be wrong.
Dillon Taylor, Esq. from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and I recorded a podcast about our shared experience with firefighting / EMS. Dillon tells me about his journey from Firefighter to Chief of Staff. Here's the recording:
The Boat Incident of 2022
The next day involved a boat, the New Jersey State Police, and a Denny's. Here it is written as a screenplay.
Scene: Jesse is towing his new boat for the first time, four hours to Raystown Lake, PA (home of Sparky Price). Full of excitement, Jesse turns off the radio, listening closely for anything going awry. Jesse makes it to I-80 West, eases back into his seat, and turns on a podcast. JUST THEN: several cars pull up to Jesse, and point at the boat. Jesse's heart fills with dread, as he pulls over.
DRIVER 1 - "Your seat flew out of your boat!!"
Jesse pulls over, knowing the trouble that he's in with his wife. He starts walking down the highway, about 1/4 mile from where the boat seat should be. As he's walking, a New Jersey State Trooper pulls up.
TROOPER DAN: "Sir... you cannot be walking down the highway!!"

JESSE: "I'm just trying to get my seat cushion. Can you please swing around and try to grab it for me?"
Just as Jesse says that chunks of plywood and vinyl fly past in the middle of the highway. Jesse knew, that the seat is gone and this trip just got a whole lot more expensive.
Jesse is frisked, put in the back of the cop car, and driven back in shame to his truck. He then drives to Denny's, sits alone, and eats an omelet.
END SCENE
Aside from this... the trip was great!
