The One Branding Mistake I See EVERYWHERE (and How to Fix It)

Hey Y.E.S. Squad,

It's been a while since I published my newsletter, and I'm so thrilled to be back. I've genuinely missed every one of you. To my new subscribers, I say a huge welcome! I hope you enjoy reading my newsletter as much as I love writing it. Today's edition is about something I noticed on my personal branding journey: one glaring personal branding mistake that seems to be plaguing professionals everywhere. It's so familiar yet so easy to fix.

Ready to find out what it is?

The Mistake: The Vanishing Act

It's easy to fall into the inconsistency trap in today's fast-paced environment. We start strong with our personal branding efforts, but then life happens. We get busy, distracted, or discouraged, and before we know it, our online presence is M.I.A.

Maybe you started posting on LinkedIn regularly, but then work got crazy. Or you launched a blog with great intentions, only to run out of steam after a few weeks.

Whatever the reason, the vanishing act is a branding killer. When you disappear from the online space, you become irrelevant. Your connections forget about you, your audience loses interest, and your hard-earned momentum grinds to a halt.

Think about it: would you trust a brand that only showed up whenever they felt like it? Would you buy from a company that disappeared for months on end? Probably not. Neither would I.

The same principle applies to your personal brand. The key to building trust, credibility, and visibility is CONSISTENCY.

The Fix: Embrace the Power of Habit

The good news is that inconsistency is a habit, and habits can be changed. Here are a few strategies to help you break the cycle and establish a consistent personal brand presence:

  • Set Realistic Goals:

Don't try to do too much too soon. Start by setting small, attainable goals. For example, instead of vowing to post on LinkedIn every day, aim for three times a week.

  • Create a Content Calendar:

A content calendar is the foundation of consistency, so you should plan your posts, articles, and videos. This approach is excellent for staying focused and avoiding last-minute chaos.

  • Batch Your Content Creation:

Instead of creating content without planning, you can set aside dedicated time each week to batch your work. This will make the process more efficient and less overwhelming.

  • Automate Where Possible:

You can use various scheduling tools to automate your social media posts. This will free up your time and ensure your content gets published even when you are busy.

  • Repurpose Content:

Don't let your hard work go to waste. Repurpose your blog posts into social media updates, videos, or podcast episodes. This will help you extend the reach of your content and maximise its impact. I have repurposed some of my LinkedIn posts from 8-10 months earlier and they did much better than previously.?

  • Enlist Help:

If you need help to stay consistent, consider hiring a virtual assistant or social media manager to help you create content and schedule.

  • Be Patient:

Consistency takes time and effort. Keep going even if you don't see results overnight. Keep showing up and creating value, and your audience will eventually notice.

The Rewards of Consistency

Consistency is the foundation of a solid personal brand. When you consistently show up and provide value to your audience, you:

  • Build Trust: Reliable and predictable brands earn the trust of consumers.
  • Establish Credibility: Regular content creation positions you as an expert.
  • Increase Visibility: Consistent posting helps you stay top of mind with your audience.
  • Attract Opportunities: Opportunities will come knocking when you're visible and credible.

Here's your challenge for the week:

Commit to consistency in your personal branding efforts. Set a realistic goal for how often you'll post, and stick to it for at least 30 days.

I guarantee you'll be amazed at the results. Let me know how it goes.

In the next issue:

Next week, I'll share tips on how to revive your personal brand in under 30 minutes. Does that sound interesting? You'll love it!

Until then, keep shining your brand bright!
