1. IMAGINING THE CITY OF THE FUTURE - MINUS TECH. NICK DUNN & PAUL CURETON

A black and white line drawing of a city with colorful red, blue and green circles in the foreground

"Imagining future cities has long been a favorite activity for architects, artists, and designers. Technology is often central in these schemes–it appears as a dynamic and seemingly unstoppable force, providing a neat solution to society’s problems. But our recent research has suggested that we need to significantly rethink the way we imagine future cities, and move our focus from an overarching technological vision to other priorities, such as environmental sustainability and the need to tackle social inequalities."

"It is human, perhaps, to appreciate little that which we have and to long for that which we have not, but it is a great pity that in the world of light the gift of sight is used only as a mere convenience rather than as a means of adding fullness to life."

"You could be forgiven for thinking that 2020 was little more than a slow-motion train wreck broken up into 365 individual units. Yes, it was a most difficult year. But it was also a year of problems solved, hopes sustained and seemingly insurmountable challenges met. Here are 112 of the highlights."

"In 2009, the magazine released Vanity Fair’s Proust Questionnaire: 101 Luminaries Ponder Love, Death, Happiness, and the Meaning of Life - a charming compendium featuring answers by such cultural icons as Jane Goodall, Allen Ginsberg, Hedy Lamarr, Gore Vidal, Julia Child, and Joan Didion. Among the most wonderful answers, equal parts playful and profound, are those by David Bowie - published in the magazine in August of 1998."

Minus tech isn't the answer. It's how tech is applied. A building doesn't have a ramp added on, it consists of ramps throughout instead of stairs (along with elevators of course) This eliminates the distinction between those who can use stairs and those who cannot which leads to inclusion. Add on tech for tech's sake is not as effective as integrated tech for people's.
