Once Upon a Cow
Has anyone read Once Upon a Cow, by Camilo Cruz? If not, you should check it out.
Amazon describe it as: “ What prevents us from succeeding, achieving our goals and being happy? The real enemy of success and happiness is not failure, as many people think, but conformism and excuses that limit our success. In this extraordinary metaphor, the cow represents every excuse, pretext or justification that keeps us tied to a conformist life that prevents us from using our potential to the fullest. We all want to make our dreams come true, have better relationships, achieve financial freedom and positively influence the lives of our children or close relatives. However, we fill ourselves with excuses, we seek guilty for our failures and we end up believing that success is impossible.”
If you can really look at yourself in the mirror, and identify the EXCUSES, FEARS, FALSE BELIEFS, and JUSTIFICATIONS (YOUR COWS) that you have been telling yourself are the reasons why you cannot do things differently, you may quickly see how different your outlook on life can become.
So , if you can identify your Cows, and the beliefs these Cows represent, and then:
1. Make a list of all the negative things the presence of these cows represents.
2. Make a list of all the positive things that could arise if this cow were dead.
3. Define new parameters of behaviour to stop these cows from living again.
You just might see your personal and professional life very differently.
