Once More...

The years went by
We never talked.
I was so wrong
And so she walked.
Yet in my need
She again appeared.
Still beautiful and hard,
Still all I feared.
The first poem I ever wrote
That caught people’s eye
Was about her giving heart
I thought destroyed by my lie.
Still I now sit near her
For she’s let me back
And undeserved as it is
I run again with her pack.
Her anger still comes
Like a swift prairie storm,
Yet she’s still as gentle
As a babe new-born.
She still has that heart
That leaves me amazed.
A way of speaking true,
Leaving my mind dazed.
She sees through all the lies,
Setting me from wrong to right.
I’m still a deer in the woods
Caught in a poacher’s headlight
But worse, she’s more now
Despite her pain that I built,
Much more ever wonderous,
More stone for a wall of guilt.
So, I try and stay away
Despite self-harm and need.
For what can I offer her?
Only more words to read?
Yet once more tonight
I will sit by her side.
Once more she’ll shine light
On the truth’s that I hide.
When I once more depart
I’ll thank the Heaven’s above,
For the gift of a true friend
Who’s shown me true love.
