A once in a lifetime opportunity - but they all say that, don't they?
We are creating a one off unique dining set - 6 dining chairs and a 1400 diameter table. What's special? Well the wonderful teak being used is already approximately 200 years old and has spent about 90 of those beneath the Atlantic.
The teak started its journey to the UK as a gift from the Burmese government, sent in large baulks approx 5-600 mm square and between 5 and 6 metres long its intention was to aid war efforts and for use as decking, heavy gun placements and other MOD uses.
Unfortunately off Southern Ireland on the 8th July 1917 the German submarine U57 found the little merchantman SS PEGU and promptly sank her, with the loss of only 1 life. We have full details of the U Boat, its captain, his log and account of the sinking. Salvage of the PEGU took place in 2011/2 We are very fortunate to have acquired several beautiful slabs of this rare and stunning teak.
We have created a stunning very large and heavy table, now residing in Oxfordshire, a pair of Wave Benches at the entrance to Holland Park and now using the very last of our stock this unique dining set - so you see it is a "once in a lifetime opportunity"
The chairs are of a nautical theme with anchors in the back rest, the worm damaged edges across the top of the chairs. The table features and is designed in the format of a compass, again the outer edges all feature the worm damage, the legs are formed into a binnacle style. Centrally mounted is a genuine WW11 German battleship solid brass compass filled with alcohol exactly as it should be so you can decide who faces which way!! The solid brass compass points are also inlaid into the teak.
This set will be appeal to a nautical family or indeed anyone who appreciates our history and heritage - imagine sitting around with friends and discussing the tables history and if you have doubters - show them the full history you will be given with this purchase.
Pictures will follow - you will also receive a video of your tables creation and of course the chairs. Finally a PEGU teak handmade decanter holder complete with original rum decanter and 6 rum glasses.
