Once is Not Enough

Once is Not Enough

Just because chance gave us a great opportunity once, does not mean that we should give up striving forward. An accidental chance is not an inevitability that it will happen again.

There is an old Chinese story that talks about a farmer who toils hard in the field every day. One day the farmer goes to rest and eat his lunch in the shade of a tree.

As he nears the tree a hare took fright by the sudden appearance of the farmer and accidentally runs straight into the tree, killing it instantly.

The farmer was very happy with the wonderful meal of fresh hare that he and his family enjoyed that night with very little effort.

From that day on, rather than working on the land, the farmer sat under the tree waiting for another hare. He never got another hare of course and all the villagers laughed at him for taking what was an accident, for the inevitable.

Just because chance gave us a great opportunity once, does not mean that we should give up striving forward. An accidental chance is not an inevitability that it will happen again.

Pure luck does come, occasionally. So better go and get it instead of waiting for it to come, by chance.
