On-Page SEO - Keywords Placement for Maximum SEO Effect
Over the past few years, Google has launched several updates to better improve its search results for the users. Rules have changed drastically. With the launch of Hummingbird, Panda, Rankbrain, Google is becoming smarter and your On-Page SEO Strategies should change along as well.
What can you do to change and improve your On-Page SEO Strategies? What are the ways to get the maximum SEO effect?
You must be thinking “Without a doubt, it is going to be the more keywords I use, the better my On-Page SEO, the better I rank!”. That is absolutely wrong. Overcrowding a page with too many keywords is going to confuse the search engines when it comes to crawling of your page. Two keywords in one page should be more than sufficient to increase your chance of ranking in the search engines.
So... where should you place your keywords?
Title: “Meta Title Tag”
A title is a description of the topic of your page. A title should be kept short and sweet and should contain your keyword. Long titles will not look nice to your targeted users and visitors, hence driving traffic away.
Description: “Meta description Tag”
A description should be a summary of your content. A description should contain keywords that you are targeting. But make sure you don’t overdo it by putting same keywords more than twice. Variations of keywords could be used. Keep it in mind to keep the description short as to under 160 words for better results.
Heading:
Your page should contain multiple headings like h1,h2,h3. The most important out of all is the h1. Keywords are to be included in the h1 of the page that you are trying to rank. There should not be a duplication of h1 tags. But you can include multiple h2 or h3 as they are sub headings.
URL:
Keywords can be used in URL but do not overdo it. One keyword in one URL is sufficient. Try to refrain using stop words such as “the” in the URL.
Image Alt Text and Image Title Tag:
You may ask “What is the difference between these two? ”. Image Alt Text is to let the search engine understand what the image is about whereas Image Title Tag is to let the user better understand the image.
To summarise, correct placements of keywords will help you get your page to work better and your site crawled by search engine spiders. This will increase the value of your internal pages and hence increasing your ranking on search engines.
