??On-Call Life: Issue 04

Welcome back to On-Call Life, your go-to source for all things IT. In this newsletter, I will discuss recent events in general IT, cybersecurity, software development, and other areas.

It’s not even Halloween yet…??

The time of year has come where we look around at the deals and decorations and think to ourselves – it's not even Halloween yet! But alas, holiday shopping began this week with Amazon Prime Big Deal Days starting yesterday. So, what does this mean??

It’s time to start diligently monitoring website uptimes, of course. With the number of site visitors spiking for many eCommerce companies, there also comes increased probability of errors, failures, and latency.

Customers expect seamless experiences. So, if they find it difficult to navigate your site, they might ultimately abandon their carts and head somewhere else to do their holiday shopping. This means, SRE teams must be effectively monitoring their site 24/7, especially through the end of the year. However, they can’t just sit around chained to their desk all day checking their emails for alerts from monitoring tools about website failures.?

With OnPage’s incident alert management solution, teams can integrate their existing monitoring tools and immediately be notified in the case of website downtimes, right on their mobile devices. Last year, we discussed this very topic surrounding Black Friday, but the principles still apply…check it out:

?Out: Passwords ?In: SSO

61% of consumers say that they have too many passwords to track. And I am starting to agree. To prevent myself from getting hacked, I am forced to continue to come up with hard-to-remember, 16+ character passwords. But then what? Do I write them down? Save them to my computer? Those are still easy for malicious parties to find and use for their benefit.?

So, what is the solution? Personally, I find SSO to be a great way to keep up with security, without having to remember a bunch of random letters, numbers, and special characters. With the click of a button, I can log in using only one account, with one password, without worrying about being easily hacked.?

Many applications support SSO, including OnPage, significantly reducing the number of passwords I have to keep up with and making my life that much easier. So, to meet the growing demand for seamless logins, applications should focus on incorporating SSO, ensuring customers don’t turn to more secure and convenient alternatives.?

Meme Corner??

It makes me wonder why some companies still use pagers…

Feature Spotlight: Schedule Change Logs?

OnPage’s fail-safe scheduling system democratizes the schedule creation process, allowing authorized users to make changes to their schedule when life happens. The Schedule Change Log introduces accountability to the process and ensures that employees take ownership of their actions.

With the Schedule Change Log option, organizations gain complete visibility into all the changes made to on-call schedules. The report provides comprehensive information on who made scheduling changes with timestamps.
