Why is visual design important in digital learning? ??

Utilising visual design elements in your learning content is a powerful way of boosting engagement, increasing learner attention and taking the overall learning experience to the next level.

It's so much more than simply adding graphical elements, there are endless possibilities when it comes to incorporating more visual elements and theory to your content. For instance, you could focus on layouts, colour theory, typography and even user interface (UI) design!

L&D often have to develop digital learning content for less 'exciting' topics like compliance or health and safety. Having visually appealing content is an excellent way to hold the attention of your learners for longer on drier topics.

Our top considerations for successfully using visual design elements

• Use imagery: Adding imagery not only keeps your content interesting but adds important context to your learning. In fact, the human brain processes images 60,000 times faster than text so its a great method for boosting learner comprehension.

• Think about your audience: It's important to reflect on your audience and their needs. For example, will you learners be accessing their courses on the go through their mobile devices? If so, your content should be responsive to mobile devices, easy to navigate and read.

• Make it manageable: Ensure that your text and content is easily understandable. Consider the readability/accessibility of any fonts and colour being sure to avoid large chunks of text.

• Consistency is key: Maintaining consistency in terms of layout and design throughout your learning is an important part of delivering an enjoyable experience for your users. Better yet, it's a golden opportunity to convey your brand
