In this edition, we’re focusing on two big updates from Shopify as well as getting you prepared for our major omnichannel event.
Omnichannel retail - and how to get started
With our next Engage with eCommerce event landing at the start of November, it’s a good time to talk omnichannel retail.
And, boy, did we discuss it in depth when chatting with the legend, Diarmuid McSweeney, co-founder of the amazing Gym + Coffee brand.
Diarmuid has created a hugely successful eCommerce brand through online and offline community-building, and reveals some of his secrets here.
Big news from Shopify
We have seen two big pieces of news from Shopify recently: the first was the rollout of the platform’s one-page checkout while the second was the announcement of new augmented reality product capabilities.
Arguably one of the most major updates of recent times, the one-page checkout is live and ready for merchants to adopt and preview.
Shopify is known for its high-performing checkout - it calls it the world’s best - so this is a significant change.
At Quickfire, we’ve taken a look at the one-page checkout and the early indications are that it is improving conversion rates.
For retailers on Shopify Plus, we recommend creating an additional draft checkout in your admin, which will be available for you to preview before you push anything live. This is particularly important for merchants with any sort of checkout customisation, as simply pushing the one-page checkout live would delete all custom elements.
The one-page checkout offers:

By reducing the steps required for customers to complete a purchase, the idea is that it reduces friction and, therefore, improves conversion metrics.
If you are on the Basic, Shopify, and Advanced plan, your checkout will be auto-updated to the new design.?
For Plus merchants, if you’ve upgraded to checkout extensibility, you will see the new one-page layout in your checkout editor.?

Shopify AR
The second piece of Shopify news might have gone under the radar, but it offers a relatively straightforward way of enhancing product imagery.
Following the release of Apple’s iOS 17, merchants can now create 3D models of products directly from the Shopify app.
Shopify says that the only requirements are good lighting, products situated in a place where you are able to walk around for a 360-degree capture, and an iPhone Pro. Then you can scan the product and upload to your store via the latest version of the Shopify app.

Engage with eCommerce
Tickets are available for our next major Engage with eCommerce event at the iconic Gherkin building in London.
The topic being tackled this time is omnichannel retail - and how it can practically be implemented.
It’s on Wednesday, November 1st, starting at 6pm. Tickets are free but extremely limited, so book now to avoid disappointment. Please note that this event is solely for retailers: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/692424810247?aff=oddtdtcreator
