OMJ Weekly

I hope everyone is having a great week! Here at OMJ, we are pretty excited as we just got the news we were voted?Best Men's Clothing in Charlotte, as well as Best Custom Suits in Charlotte in the annual Charlotte Magazine BOB awards for the 3rd straight year (The leading authority for Charlotte awards if you ask me ??). It is an honor and a testament to all of you putting in the extra effort to vote and support us, and we very much appreciate it ????.?

I often say it is all about the little things when trying to build something. The small steps forward that seem insignificant in the moment, but add up over time, amounting to really big things. Everyone wants to hurry up and get to the success part, but it doesn't usually happen that way. This business has been very much like that...at times to great frustration...and this award is a great example. The first year we won it felt great, but I don't know if it brought us any additional business. By year two we certainly got some new clients. This year it hit me, it's a snowball rolling downhill and the momentum of the thing builds on itself. I found the real win in this is that our friends, family, and customers are pulling for us to win, and in that they are engaged and connected to us in a way that it feels like their award too (and it is!)...and that is something that can neither be done overnight nor something that you can take a shortcut on. Thank you again and Cheers! ??

  • Local News: Charlotte local, incredible writer and Pulitzer Prize finalist Tommy Tomlinson released his much-anticipated book "Dogland". It's about a show dog's journey to the Westminster dog show, but also explores the bond between dogs and their people. I pre-ordered a copy a while back and can't wait to read it. I have been a longtime reader/fan of Tommy, and his weekly newsletter is often an inspiration to this very newsletter. I connect with his writing style and personal interests and have enjoyed everything he has written
  • AI: Every week, I'll be sharing insights on Artificial Intelligence (the good and the bad) and how we, or other businesses, can leverage it. This week fellow OMJ staffer Kenneth sent over this Instagram, an account for James Bond entirely generated by AI. As Mr. Bond is always known for his sartorial elegance, it looks phenomenal. I couldn't believe it, and also, cheers to how good fake Daniel Craig looks! I may or may not have tried out a similar AI software myself, and maybe one day I will share those (spoiler: despite AI's best efforts, I still do not look like James Bond ??).
  • Read: I read this great article last week about classic and timeless style featuring President Biden. Despite your political stance (style should always transcend politics of course ??), the article highlights keeping things simple and maintaining a great fit as you age with great tailoring. On a side note, the President and I have the same favorite suit color (Pantone Old Glory similar to the Blue in the American Flag). It is a slightly richer and brighter blue than your typical navy but still passes as an everyday navy. My take has always been that the rich jewel tone of this blue has a subconscious effect on people. It is slightly different from any suit color you would traditionally find "off-the-rack", and thus looks especially elegant (and expensive haha). If you come in for a custom suit, let the team know you want fabric code TRA010!
  • Watch: The recent SNL skit with Ryan Gosling doing a Beavis and Butt-Head bit was hilarious and I loved it. While there is a younger generation that doesn't even know what this was, I commend SNL for going there and it was SNL at its best. I am certainly in the age range of when this popular but crude cartoon was in the spotlight of pop culture and although I was not allowed to watch it, I may or may not have snuck and watched on occasion (sorry Mom!). I think what made it so funny for me was the actors themselves broke character and got tripped up because they found it so funny. It is an important lesson that things don't always have to be perfect to be done well, and sometimes the authenticity of something far outweighs perfection. Well done SNL!

Have a great rest of the week!

Best,

Bradley Rhyne, CEO

Tri-kudos on your third win in a row! Love reading your newsletters. This older generation dinosaur has seen too many Terminator movies to be comfortable with AI yet. I am glad I don’t have to grade essays in school now because AI goes beyond plagiarism to the next level! Keep up the awesome work, nephew!
