OMG, I got laid off today, OMG
Just when you least expect it.......pow. Today I got the “knock on the door” and was told that due to the economic situation in Alberta, my position as Procurement Manager was being terminated. (I got laid off).
Fortunately, this is not my first rodeo and for those that are in this position or are going to be in this position, I’d like to make some observations.
First, you were looking for a job when you found this one, so keep looking and don’t despair.
Second, anyone (I mean anyone) is vulnerable to outside, uncontrollable forces; it may not be about you or your work quality.
Third, business cycles are a reality, get used to it. Having a network of contacts and colleagues becomes extremely valuable when one is looking for work.
Fourth, job boards are there for you to post/update your resume. Use as many of them as you can get to, both general and career specific job boards may open doors for you.
So take a couple of days and lounge around feeling sorry for yourself and then get back to it. Searching for work is a JOB. Re-do your Resume to make it accurate and up to date. Go to your supervisors at the job you just left and get references or promises of references. Put the word out to friends, family and peers that you are available and are seeking opportunities.

8 年Hi T.R./ Jarred - surely can't be a blindsiding baseball as the stadium stands are empty and there's no human signs on the pitch. The white object must therefore be a snowball from heaven, hopefully not heading for hell. Wish you well T.R. ... I've been through redundancy, obsolescence & extinction, later discovering reincarnation can actually happen!!
