OMFA’s Knowledge Event on Exporting to Europe - An Emcee’s Recap

On November 26, 2024, the Oman Manufacturers Association hosted a?Knowledge Event?at InvestOMAN . This event brought together key stakeholders from Oman and Europe to explore opportunities for fostering trade connections, sharing insights, and celebrating cultural ties between the regions. The evening was a success, marked by engaging discussions, expert presentations, and meaningful networking. Special thanks must go to HE Qais Al Yousef , Minister?at the ????? ??????? ???????? ?????? ????????? and HE pankaj khimji ,?Advisor for Foreign Trade and International Cooperation in the ????? ??????? ???????? ?????? ????????? for their attendance and contributions. It was an honour to be the Master of Ceremonies for the event.?It's my main to give a brief summary of the event.

Event Highlights

I kicked the event off my emphasising?the growing importance of Europe as a key export market for Oman, highlighting a remarkable 60% increase in exports over the past year. The program featured over 10 distinguished speakers from diverse sectors, each contributing valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges of exporting to Europe.

Some key highlights included:

  • Sheikh Dr. Hilal Al Hinai BA, MBA, DBA , Chairman of Oman Manufacturers Association , inaugurated the event with an opening speech that underscored Oman's commitment to strengthening its manufacturing sector and expanding its global footprint.
  • A?documentary film?on the European Union's Single Market celebrated its 30th anniversary and showcased its role in enabling free movement of goods, services, and capital—a promising avenue for Omani exporters.
  • Mr. Emile Hoogsteden , CEO of SOHAR Port and Freezone , discussed strategic collaborations with the Port of Rotterdam and how these partnerships have positioned Oman as a global logistics hub.
  • Mrs. Lubna Alwahaibi , Managing Director of 西门子能源 , shared insights on navigating European markets while emphasising sustainability and diversity in leadership.
  • Ambassadors from Italy (HE Pierluigi D’Elia), Hungary (H.E. Barnabás Fodor), and Germany (H.E. Dirk Lolke) provided country-specific perspectives on trade dynamics, cultural synergies, and export opportunities.
  • Mr. Khalil Al Harthy , CEO of Credit Oman , highlighted the critical role of credit insurance in mitigating trade risks for Omani businesses venturing into European markets.
  • Mrs. Cinzia Farisè , Chairwoman of Oman Cables Industry , joined virtually from Milan to discuss technological advancements and the role of women as decision-makers in enabling exports.
  • Legal expert?Mr. Graham Conlon ?offered practical advice on navigating European regulations, tax strategies, and setting up operations in Europe.
  • ?HE pankaj khimji ,?Advisor for Foreign Trade and International Cooperation in the ????? ??????? ???????? ?????? ????????? brought the event to brilliant close giving us a ton of insights on how Oman can leverage Europe as an export market.?

Networking and Future Plans

The evening concluded with a delightful buffet dinner prepared by students from Oman Tourism College . Attendees had ample time to network and exchange ideas in a relaxed setting. The event also served as a platform to announce exciting future plans: three major events in 2025 focusing on North America, Asia, and GCC regions.
