Oman And The Turtle
John Wreford
Istanbul Photographer. A Freelance Photographer Based in Turkey covering the Middle East
Oman is one of my favorite destinations in the Middle East to work, I have been privileged to have worked on a couple of projects, once for a publisher producing a book with the cooperation of the ministry of tourism and the Omani embassy in Paris and on a separate occasion for a commercial client publishing a financial report, in both cases, the trip was short and intense and given the time of year far from ideal but ultimately immensely rewarding.
Both clients gave me the opportunity to explore the diversity of the country, as a commercial photographer I had a chance to see the development of modern infrastructure, the new international Muscat airport and its banking and financial institutions as well as luxury hotels.
The publisher gave me the opportunity to travel from the Souks of Muscat to the fishing ports of Sur, fording lush Wadi’s and crossing the vast desert interior, rugged mountain ranges, and remote fortified towns. Places where tradition and history sit comfortably with the contemporary and where always hospitality comes first.
My visits were brief but the effect was everlasting and once it’s safe to travel again a destination I very much look forward to returning.
I have just published a short travel photo-essay on my blog;
