You won't believe it, but older generations are embracing travel trends popularized by younger travelers.?
Allianz Partners USA's Annual Vacation Confidence Index traditionally tracked micro-cations, pay-cations, and wellness-themed trips, as new trends favored by travelers aged 18-34. In its latest survey, the company actually found a significant shift: travelers aged 55 and older are now leading growth in niche travel sectors.
Coined the Silver Surge for Gen Xers aged 55 and above, this demographic is opting for pet-friendly stays and solo adventures, a blend of traditional as well as more modern leisure preferences familiar to Millennials and Gen Zers.
New trends across generations
Pet-friendly travel is on the rise as more people bring their furry family members along. Seniors now travel with pets at 24%, while 41% of those aged 35-54 do the same. Younger adults aged 18-34 still prefer pet-friendly stays, with 40% traveling with pets.
Pay-cations are becoming a big deal for those wanting to work and travel simultaneously while still getting paid. More travelers aged 35-54 are planning to work from vacation spots. Younger adults aged 18-34 are also into this trend, and even some seniors are testing the waters with the trend this year.
Check out the rest of the travel trends reshaping the industry, appealing to even seasoned travelers. It's heartening to find something my grandparents and I can finally agree on. This might inspire a summer trip together with all of our fur babies. Sends this to their fax machine.
