Twenty-one young men and women from six KCDC communities recently completed the five-week Pathways program, which highlighted various career and educational advancement opportunities. Funded by a City of Knoxville Opportunity Youth Engagement grant, the program focused on resources to help participants reach their goals and address concerns about the “benefits cliff,” dispelling myths about income inclusion/ exclusion and its effect on household benefits. The program explored different “pathways,” including higher education, trade school and workforce development, professionalism/ entering the workforce, and community service. Congratulations to all the participants, and thank you to everyone who helped make the Pathways program possible! #KCDC #Pathways #LifePlanning #FutureGoals #NextSteps #CareerPathways

We appreciate all the amazing volunteers who recently supported building six raised garden beds beside the Western Heights Baptist Center! These beds are for the center’s afterschool garden education program, creating hands-on learning opportunities for children and teaching them the importance of gardening. Thanks to Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee, City of Knoxville, Knoxville Police Department, Turn Up KNOX,Western Heights Neighborhood, Western Heights Baptist Center, Beardsley Farm, and UTK Family Physicians. #TransformingWestern #CommunitySupport #Gardening #PartnershipsMatter #WesternHeights

Thanks to our tremendous partnership with Tennessee Valley Authority, Clean Energy at ORNL and the EPRI, today we took the first step toward installation of more than 90 solar panels on top of Liberty Place, our first housing development designated for homeless veterans and those at risk of being homeless. These panels will go a long way in providing power for the 32-unit development which is scheduled to open later this year. We appreciate all our partners for helping make Liberty Place a reality. #LibertyPlace #KCDCCommunities #KCDC #Veterans #SolarPanels #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #CleanEnergy
