Old Story, New Meaning #3

When change is really no change at all...

A young family was on a summer road trip when the semi they were following went under a bridge and got stuck. It was a bit too tall for the bridge. Traffic immediately backed up for miles and everyone, including our dad, the truck driver, the police, and a growing number of other drivers could not agree on how to "unstuck the truck". Can't raise the bridge. Can't un-hook the trailer. Can't back it out. All the standards solutions weren't going to work. Tempers were starting to rise.

About that time, the youngest daughter of the young family woke up from her nap to discover their car wasn't moving and lots of angry people were walking around. She asked her mother what was going on and her mother replied, "that truck under the bridge got stuck because it was too tall. Everyone is trying to figure out how to get it unstuck".

The young girl got out of the car and joined her daddy. She looked at the truck; looked at the bridge and in "out of the mouths of babes" fashion quietly asked her daddy "why don't they just let some air out of the tires?" Stunned silence followed as the myriad of adults meekly acknowledged the brilliantly simple solution and returned to the solitude of their vehicles.

A little air was let out of the semi's tires and the young family continued on their road trip with the young daughter having a great story to share for her "what did you do on your summer vacation" project when school started again.

If you're looking for an incentive compensation management platform to replace your current, manual, Excel-based compensation management process, you need to decide if you're just looking to automate the way you've always done things (which will most likely leave you frustrated and complaining about the broken promises of a better way); or if you're prepared to "let a little air out of your tires" by altering your processes just a little and take full advantage of the benefits of automation.

Once you decide, your summer road trip will be much more enjoyable.

No doubt, sometime I think I just need to let a little air out of my head when problem solving blindness sets in. Thanks Skip
