How many degrees to you have? Grammar school, high school, graduate, doctorate. As the old joke goes, some people have more degrees than a thermometer. Most of us have at least two or three.

How many alumni of your alma maters are on LinkedIn. Probably thousands for each school.

How many of them are you connected to on LinkedIn? Most of us would answer "Not many".

But old school ties are one of the most powerful affinities for digital networking. So one of your objectives to grow your network and thus your business way mell be turning old school ties into LinkedIn connections and ultimately customers.

It's a simple, five-step process.

First, identify alumni of your alma maters. You can do a search with Sales Navigator and supplement it with online or offline alumni directories from your alma maters' alumni affairs offices.

Second, research alumni to se if they fit your addressable market criteria. These of course are different depending on your business, target market, and objectives.

Third, follow the alums you want to connect with. That will allow you to see how how active they are on the platform and, by reading their posts. gain insights into their interests and pain points.

Fourth, send personalized connection requests that mention your alumni affiliation.

Fifth, message your new connections to nurture the relationship. Send links to compelling, educational content. Each message may include an invitation to a Zoom meeting to take the new connection to the next level, transcending the platform.

The lifetime value of a new LinkedIn connection is extraordinary. It allows you to send messages at no charge indefinitely. Use that privilege wisely. Limit messaging frequency and content. Remember, you can't irritate people into liking you. Develop a pace and editorial calendar that you establish through testing to be optimal for turning connections into clients.
