The old Carpenter
A carpenter who worked for close to 30 years in house building company. One fine day he decided he wanted to hang is boots. He told his employer about his retirement plans and he wanted to live a quieter life with his wife and wanted to enjoy with his grandchildren. He also said he would miss his salary but he also had a good saving.
His manager was sad that a good carpenter is leaving his team. The manager worked with him since the beginning and he was sad to let his favorite team member go. In the end, the manager requested the carpenter to work on one last project. The carpenter said he would do this one last time. When the project began, we could see that his focus was not on his work. His interest in working on the project was not there. He resorted to tawdry workmanship and he used substandard material. All he wanted to do was to get the work done. It was sad to see his work at the end of his career which he so loved to do.
When he finished his work, his manager came to see his work. He then handed the house keys to the carpenter saying “This is your house, a gift from the company for his work and dedication.
The carpenter was shaken!!
If the carpenter had known that it was his house he was building, he would have done the work differently.
If look at this story, it resonates with our lives to. We also build our careers, our lives one day at a time. Most of the time we put less than our best efforts into building that house and in the end, we find out we have to live in that house we have built. If we knew earlier we would have done it differently.
As they say, we can’t turn the clock back. The carpenter represents us. Every day we use different tools to create masterpieces.
Like the carpenter, your attitude and the choices you make every day helps you to build that house that you will live in tomorrow.
Build wisely!
