Old Building, New Wi-Fi

Old Building, New Wi-Fi

DIG, DRILL OR DAMAGE NO-MORE!

“The name of the game is reducing the total cost of ownership to deliver reliable gigabit speed,” says Blake Bolin, Revenue Optimization Specialist, WorldVue. “Wi-Fi is not a commodity. The Cambium Networks Wi-Fi access points do everything that higher end enterprise APs do. Higher capacity and coverage translates to lower total cost, and that has enabled us to break into many different vertical markets and environments.”

RESULTS:

·??Residents thrilled with Gigabit symmetrical speeds.

·??Project finished in 8 weeks vs 26 weeks proposed.

·??Project cost about half of complete rebuild.

·??Zero resident calls about technology issues to the Service Center in the first 60 days

Technology is evolving at a fast pace and while some aspects of the latest in technology can be picked up and replaced overnight with a simple purchase, there are other aspects that aren’t as simple.

Lenox Cove Apartments Homes in Jacksonville Florida were excited about their grand opening of over 100 apartments, and everything seemed in order, until everything wasn’t. Like every other modern apartment complex, they wished to offer high speed internet access to their residents, which didn’t seem much of a challenge initially. The local cable company proposed a DOCSIS model which involved replacing the old coax cables throughout the building. While the other construction met deadlines flawlessly, close to the date of opening the network issue wasn’t resolved as yet. This was definitely a massive roadblock in completion.

When they approached RealtyCom for advice, they suggested that WorldVue could help them with a solution that can be quick to install using the buildings existing legacy wiring.

WorldVue delivered beyond the promise. They quickly set up a phenomenal network across all the three buildings without needing to cut into the drywall or drill holes through the ceiling.

Here are some aspects that lead to the successful and timely delivery of this project:

CHOICE OF PARTNERS

Cambium Networks, Positron Access Solutions and WorldVue

CHOICE OF SOLUTION

The solution was designed based on the Positron G.hn Access Multiplexer (GAM) and Cambium Networks indoor Wi-Fi access points. The GAM establishes an ethernet backbone that can feed 1G service over coax (up to 2500 ft on RG6) to each Cambium AP. And the Cambium wireless network delivers complete “car-to-bed” coverage that keeps tenants safe and connected.

BUSINESS VALUE

Compared with traditional DOCSIS solutions, the G.hn technology used by the GAM is more resilient over poor-quality coax, delivers symmetric bandwidth, and achieves a markedly higher peak bandwidth, resulting in a subscriber experience akin to what would be achieved if fiber or CAT6 were available to each unit.
