OLD AGE + Dementia? Is it because you are SO FRIGHTENED?
Is It because you are so frightened?
Ok, so it’s now time for a very frank and open and honest conversation about getting old and dementia. Please feel free to answer my enquiries at your leisure, and so we will begin…..
When you stand behind someone elderly In a queue who is elderly or confused, when they are taking an age to find their purse of pay the cashier, or chatting about the weather, are you one of those who Tutts, or makes hurtful comments like, Come on Grannie, places to be people to see. Then, the more they rush it takes them longer as they are agitated and worked up, so you get more frustrated and angry, yes angry, as a former retail manager I have seen it all, the thing is, half the time its YOU that’s caused this.
So, why are you so frustrated, angry and inpatient, do you have to be somewhere that’s so important it’s a matter of life and death? If you were a Doctor, nurse,RNLI or a medic you would drop everything and come back to it later, so what is it that’s so important you cannot wait one minute longer??
Is it because you’re SCARED ?? There it is, out in the open, is it because you are frightened of what you see in front of you? Or because you know deep down that this will be you one day, (if you’re lucky) and it just doesn’t compute with your young way of thinking and living. Is that why you sometimes, unknown to others, look at elderly people with disgust and disdain because you are seeing glimpse of your future right there in front of your eyes and your absolutely petrified? Then on top of that there is the worry of dementia to contend with, all your youthful memories disappearing slowly one by one. Then, the reality begins to dawn on you that one day it will be you that’s confused, frightened and scared of what people say. It will be you that’s upset when someone tutts or asks you to hurry up?? Is that what your sacred of ?? Are you really that frightened of becoming that person in front of your very eyes?? Is this what the world has come to, the evolution of the human race has reached the point where we start to look at elderly people and/or people with dementia as second class citizens? REALLY?? We have space travel, technology which we thought we would never see in our life time, all of us that is, and yet, the most common and easiest thing to do isto treat your fellow human beings with respect, has this been lost??
Hard words and hard questions, I agree, but questions that need to be asked and I believe in my humble opinion so easy to answer. If you’re lucky enough, getting older i a certainty, unlike some of the horses I used to back lol, but it will come to most of us, and so will dementia regarding some of us as well, it’s the biggest killer in the UK FACT !! So the more you learn now, the more you will know what to expect as you get older. When was the last time you smiled at an elderly person in a café, a supermarket and asked HOW ARE YOU ? They have such wondereous stories to tell, what they have done, places they have been and seen
IS THAT IT ?? ARE YOU JEALOUS OF THEM ??

Because they have and you haven’t ?? Yet another question. Most of us rush around as though our backside is on fire, including me, well, sometimes, anyway, but my point is if just for once you sit back, take a mo and look at what’s going on around you, you will be surprised how wonderful this world really is, and just too finish off, the most ironic thing is, the things you are rushing too most with your Hurry up, and come on, or I haven’t got all day comments, is your very own old age.
How ironic is that??
