Okta CIAM Vs Auth0

After I finished Okta CIAM deployment for one of my clients, Okta released another product called Auth0 that does the same job as CIAM. Why would a company release two products performing the same function?

The answer is “although both products do the same job of functioning as Identity platform for customers, it differs based on the use cases”.

Okta CIAM has several out-of-the-box components with minimal customization options. Example – User registration, login widget, user profile page, automated workflows, etc., has minimal customization.

Auth0 allows a good amount of customization by providing easy programming options for user registration, workflow connecting the downstreams, custom login widget etc per the business needs.

How do I know which product is suitable for the business?

Conclusion

Use CIAM when the out-of-the-box services fulfill business needs. Small to mid-sized businesses can benefit as it only requires minimal IT resources with no coding to maintain the platform. When the requirements demand a lot of customization, Auth0 supports building the requirements using internal IT resources. However, coding knowledge is required to develop and maintain Auth0.
