OKR, does it work for you?

OKR, does it work for you?

Yesterday while meeting with one of my colleagues, I noticed that their company had implemented OKRs but wasn't seeing the expected results. What are some common signs that your OKR execution might not be working?

  1. Misalignment with company goals is a major red flag. You will only achieve meaningful progress if your OKRs are aligned with your company's overall strategy and vision.
  2. Poor goal setting and tracking can also derail your OKR execution. Too vague or unmeasurable goals make tracking progress difficult and hold people accountable.
  3. A lack of accountability and transparency can lead to teams working in silos and failing to collaborate effectively. Ensuring everyone knows each other's goals and progress is crucial to promote collaboration and support.
  4. Effective communication and collaboration can help successful OKR execution. If teams aren't communicating effectively, it can lead to confusion and missed opportunities.
  5. Inadequate resources and support can hinder the achievement of your OKRs. Ensuring teams have the necessary resources, including time, money, and personnel is crucial to achieving their goals.
  6. Failing to adapt and adjust strategies when needed can prevent you from achieving your OKRs. Your goals and strategy should be flexible and responsive to changes in the business landscape.

There are many ways in which your OKR execution can go wrong, but it doesn't mean the framework is ineffective. Identifying and addressing these common issues can improve your OKR implementation and achieve better results.
