It is OK to pivot in 2025

With the new year and new school term here, so many people find themselves at a crossroads. Some are considering leaving the country, the region, their role, or even the profession. These decisions are not the things many people feel comfortable discussing on LinkedIn or in other public domains. These are the things we mull over in our heads as we go to bed at night or just as we wake up in the mornings. They are what we sit and discuss in confidence with our spouses, partners, or besties.

The courage it takes to acknowledge that it is time for a change is great, but what is even greater is the courage to take action. We immediately start to think of how things will go. We try to plan every step and think of all the contingencies, but this post is to let you know that when you feel that undeniable urge for a change, it is ok to pivot. It is ok to change.

I have a theory that I call the Cautious Change Theory. (Yes, I made it up.) When I need to make a major change, I sit down and think about who this change will affect. I also think about what will happen if I do not make that change, and I think of a few things I can do in case the change does not work out. I know it's not the advice you normally get from the self-help gurus. They tend to tell you to jump, but I am not a fan of just jumping without knowing what may or may not happen.

We cannot predict everything, so yes, there are still risks. What I would not advise is that you remain stuck. It is ok to pivot and change, and if that is what you feel you need to do in 2025, then take some time to plan your move. But for goodness sake, do not remain stuck.

It is ok to pivot.

Attitude plays a major role in changes. Believing that changes will bring positive things in our lives is fundamental. We are more resilient than we can ever think, sometimes we just need to believe it.

I love the terms “pivot” and “it will all be fine” anyone who has worked with me knows I use them all the time. i could not agree more, it really is ok to pivot in 2025 My advice when you “pivot” try not to over think it. If your gut says - its fine, then go for it.

Yes, it's good to pivot and redirect with some diligence. The ‘gut feel’ plays a part here...??
