Is it Ok to Lie in Your Resume? Courtroom Style Discussion

Is it Ok to Lie in Your Resume? Courtroom Style Discussion

There are two theories behind it-

1)????Fake it till you make it

2)????Foundation of lies never build emperor of Trust

Fake it Till you Make it-

Argument – In the world where everything that shines, ‘sell’; it is fair enough to fake it a little to get a chance. Especially for starting career, where expectations from employer is already wrong, what’s harm in faking a few soft skills or telling you were College President or Founded an Entrepreneur Club. To be honest, it’s a gray area between ‘I am an expert’ and ‘I have done it’.

Counter- Its start of falsehood. It may start with lying about ‘soft skills’, will quickly escalate to ‘fake certificates’, then ‘fake experiences’ and finally ‘fake profile’. Once the truth is out (after you join), the trust can never be repaired and may have very bad consequences (legal).

Foundation of lies never build emperor of Trust

Argument- Since when Lying became a gray area? Its either a lie or not!!!! Would you like to work with an organization that made fake promises? Pay you less than they promised?

NO? then on the same path, isn’t giving back less than you promised wrong too?

Employment is a trust of transparency and if it’s not there, what is left?

Counter- Exaggerating on emotions can’t feed empty stomach. Companies don’t lie? or in some fancy words ‘sugar coat’ the promises? If they can do it to attract, why shouldn’t a candidate try to over sell?

We understand that a relationship should not have any lies but if there are be no ‘sugar coated’ truths, there won’t be any relationship at all!!! So first step is to have a relationship and then to further strengthen it.

Conclusion

There is a silver line between a lie and a sugar coated truth.

“I played for Basket Ball team in college and won Trophies” and “I managed my college basket ball team and brought unexceptional glories” may come under that silver line to get something to talk about. However; “I was working with XYZ” and “I was the co-founder of XYZ” is totally on a different level.

Let you be the better Judge Today. So, My Lord, who won the case?

?

1)????Fake it till you make it
OR
2)????Foundation of lies never build emperor of Trust

I think getting yr desire job on the pretext of false skills will always put you under pressure to prove yourself. There is always a burden to prove yourself worthy enough. So why not show what skills you have and your ability to learn more

After hearing both the parties, I go with second. It may take little more time to find a job with truth but it’s still better than living under the fear of lie throughout the job. Vishal Bhardwaj beautifully written.
