In 2019, I encountered a gentleman with aspirations of starting his own business. He filled out a questionnaire that asked about his top three concerns. His primary worry was his responsibility towards his family, including his wife and four kids, especially after having recently purchased a new home. Secondly, he feared the financial risk, unable to afford any reduction in his current income. Lastly, he doubted he could dedicate enough time to nurturing a new venture.
The takeaway? It's acceptable for a business consultant to decline a client solely based on financial considerations. He took this advice to heart.
UPDATE: I met this gentleman again recently. It's now years after our initial conversation, and he never pursued his entrepreneurial dream; however, he still maintains his family, employment, and home.
