Ok Google, pretty please!

Ok Google, pretty please!

She came home in a nicely wrapped gift box 10 months back. A wedding present, thoughtful one at that. Newly wedded couple living in Bangalore, the tech capital, could do with a 'companion'. The term seem to have been broadened to include these inanimate, data guzzling, quasi-intelligent devices for the novelty and show value they bring. Or is it because of the niceties programmed in.

The biggest rock you see in the picture is indeed the popular Google Home mini. Surprisingly we assigned it that function only a couple of months back. Novelty took precisely one month to wear off. The in-between period was obscurity for our mini companion in the everything-goes-in cupboard after serving as the substitute speaker.

It still never fails to entertain my sweet lil' niece whenever she's home.

'Ok Google, njan Ayana Maria Tomachh'.

And the stone goes 'Sorry I didn't get that'.

Ayana laughs the prettiest laugh and after a couple more attempts goes off to her next adventure.

The knights in armor will go in it's defense citing the smartness and many possibilities of future. It can tell you the weather without looking at your phone. You want to get food delivered, just call out Ok Google and spill your guts' desire. Why, so that now instead of burrowing your head in the phone like an ostrich now you can go bellowing in the comfort of your house to a good listener. And why, pray, should I know the weather while going out. If it's rainy season it might rain, I take umbrella to be cautious. If it's sunny like now every other day, I simmer.

No Sir, I am happy with the current level of servitude to my mobile companion and the devil Netflix. 'Ok Google, sit there pretty please. Get some sun and sing to our terrarium'
