If you have a minute today (well 57 minutes actually, its a big one), have a listen to the following podcast presented by Jake Corley and Colin McLelland from OIL & GAS STARTUPS PODCAST episode 22 featuring Alex Robart of Ambyint. Interesting and full of useful insights. Here's my summary of what's discussed:
Alex Robart of Ambyint discusses his career path from management consultancy through to his investment in Corva (drilling and completions analytics platform) then on to acquiring operational control of Ambyint in 2016 with partners. Ambyint in its original form started around 2004.
Discussed Ambyints' edge inference IoT application for different lift types (deep domain expertise in rod pumps) with autonomous set-point adjustment to optimise production, reduce wear and energy usage.
A bit surprised to find out the technology is applicable for both SCADA-less small scale (mum and pop) operations to large scale operators with SCADA installed and potential payback as low as under a week!
It operates via a hardware enabled SAAS model with the ability to receive data even from remote locations with limited communications, but of course you get much higher resolution data where communications are not an issue.
They also discussed the phenomena of hugely talented data scientists aiming to disrupt the physics based operations in E&P’s with AI.
Did I hear a chuckle? Well, it hasn’t happened yet but stranger things have happened before…
