Ohio University alum was pool photographer in closely-watched courtroom in Athens, GA
Ohio University alumnus Hyosub Shin was pool photographer in the Georgia court that convicted Jose Ibarra of killing nursing student Laken Riley.
Photos by Shin, transmitted by The Associated Press , were seen worldwide.
Photojournalist Shin, who joined the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 2007, earned a master’s degree from Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication.
Riley was killed in February. Her death “added fuel to the national debate over immigration when federal authorities said Ibarra illegally entered the United States in 2022 and was allowed to stay in the country while he pursued his immigration case,” reported The AP.
Ibarra was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.
