OHADAC project: Launch of the CARO Centre

Very happy to announce that the OHADAC Regional Arbitration Centre (CARO Centre) is now fully operational!

I have prepared, along with the ACP Legal association and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Guadeloupe, the creation of this institution since 2017, and I am proud to announce that I am now acting as its Secretary General.?

The CARO Centre is much more than an arbitration centre: its objective is to offer to key players of the Caribbean region the whole range of ADR services to resolve but also prevent disputes, to support the sustainable growth of this vibrant and fascinating region.

In this perspective, we have these past years initiated important discussions with regional organizations, chambers of commerce, professional associations and companies of all sizes to understand how the recourse to ADR techniques can make a difference to fight isolation, precarity, legal insecurity, and make it possible for all players of the region to pursue their ambition on the market of their choice.?

Thanks to our commitment, we have obtained European Union development funds from the Interreg V program, with ICC Guadeloupe as project leader.

We are especially honored that Sir Dennis Byron, former President of the Caribbean Court of Justice and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda has accepted to act as President of the CARO Centre. We would like to thank him again for this vote of confidence.?

In light of the sanitary situation in Guadeloupe, the date for the inauguration of the office has been postponed until November. It has been provisionally planned for 23 November.?
