Oh, the Things Aging Life Care Managers Do!

Oh, the Things Aging Life Care Managers Do!

Aging Life Care Managers (“care managers”) support older adults and their families in many ways. From steering the “is-it-time-for-assisted-living” conversation to organizing essential documents, we’re here to help. Sometimes, we do surprising—and even humorous—out-of-the-box tasks.

Our team, for instance, works with a couple whose dog means everything to them. We recently helped with the pooch’s medication management. I even took “Fido” for an ultrasound! This got me thinking. “What unusual things have my care manager peers done to simplify life for their clients?” So I asked them. Here are several examples:

? A care manager whose gun-and-Chinese-porcelain-loving clients were downsizing brought in an auctioneer. She also organized two yard sales.

? What do you do when you’re a care manager whose clients have unruly shrubbery? You start carrying clippers, of course! The care manager routinely trims bushes blocking walkways.

? One care manager has “… purchased and changed more than one toilet seat.”

? When a care manager’s client, a hoarder, was moving to a facility, her cats were moving to a no-kill shelter. The care manager ran in and out of piles of clutter to catch the five cats!

? A care manager helped her 90+ client shop for her coffin online! Once the coffin arrived, the care manager found storage and a flexible funeral service.

? A client with early-stage dementia let out her dog, who promptly wandered away. The care manager posted his photo on Delaware’s lost-and-found pet site, and after a two-hour search, the dog was located in another neighborhood.

? When a 102-year-old’s basement flooded, her care manager hooked up a sump pump. For the next six weeks, the care manager “visited for breakfast” daily until the client trusted the new caregiver.

There are countless stories like these. It is our job as care managers to step up when no one else can. Please let me know what we can do for you.

At AgeWise Solutions, we take a holistic approach to the individual. Our services focus on making sure each client’s life remains as perfect as possible. To make an appointment, please contact us at (302) 858-6449 or [email protected]
