“Oh I think I’ve caught you on the school run” - Progress your career at your pace

A candidate called me on the school run today:

Candidate: “Oh I think I’ve caught you on the school run”

Me: “No bother…how can I help”

As we chat about a #PublicSector project Version 1 is working on, I go into detail about why I think we are a good place to work (feel of a #startup with the support of a larger organisation, flexible working, routes for progression due to growth, maturity in the way we work and no corporate rubbish) and why I enjoy working for #InsideVersion1 (Follow to see inside #Version1)…..I notice I have walked ten minutes past my car!

It got me thinking about how much focus it takes to drive your career forward at work, doing your best and being committed to your employer. You often lose track of your personal career goals and career progression. Version 1 is involved in a wide variety of projects like migrations to the AWS #cloud, #digital development on to the Azure platform or #applicationmodernisation (Read a blog about some of the work we have done) projects and to create excellence on these how much time do you have for other aspects of your career?

Version 1’s core values set us up for success, but where do you find the time? As I have said driving a project forward can take your focus, #cloud your mind to your needs, referring to another of our core values honesty and integrity we all must look after ourselves #wellbeing #mentalhealth and our families (#worklifebalance).

At Version 1 we have a defined “career path development programme” (CPD) which enables me or you to develop your career as quickly, slowly or reactively (in-between projects) as you want! You don’t need to wait for the yearly review, work towards long-winded and time-consuming goals that were set in January (more than likely February) that don’t mean anything in December.

We have a world-leading training and development tool called #Pathways by Brainier (@brainiersol - Surely deserves more than 200 followers – Get following!), enabling you to learn on the go and at your pace (We also won an award for it ‘Excellence in Talent Development’).

Back to the CPD…You know what competencies you need to show, you know how you need to do it and you feel comfortable delivering to this level of work. When you’re ready you capitalise on the experience you have gained through project work like #Blockchain, managed services work #Oracle and even work you could have done with our #Innovation labs. You then in a straightforward way explain how you have shown these competencies at the right level in your CPD Change Request submission and you can progress your CPD level at any stage of the year! (Not when you have too).
