Oh Halloween

Because it's almost Halloween I thought I would share a short story about my very first Halloween working in Los Angeles.
I was working at a post-production company in Santa Monica. Everyone there was super fun.
The vibes were cool.
And I was just a small-town girl from Iowa - so basically I was trying to fit in as much as possible in this sea of extremely talented LA people.
And then came Halloween.
I assumed this would be a big deal in Los Angeles because of the whole movie industry.
So, of course, I dressed up. However, my idea of dressing up and people living in LA's idea of dressing up are two completely different things.
Have you ever seen the movie Mean Girls? Yeah, it was something like that.
I dressed up as a morning person. Which basically meant my hair was out of control, I wore a gigantic robe with ridiculous pajamas, huge slippers, toothpaste on my face, zit cream smeared, curlers hanging from my hair, and my glasses. Imagine someone just waking up and rushing to get ready - that was my vibe.
I got to work and realized, the vibes were way off.
No one was dressed up. In fact, everyone thought I had actually forgotten I had to go to work that day. That's how realistic my costume was.
I spent the entire day trying to educate people on my costume, reassuring everyone that it was, in fact, a costume and that I didn't realize people didn't dress up on Halloween for their big-kid jobs.
I felt like the biggest dumb dumb.
One very kind soul informed me that yes, people did go hard for Halloween, it just happened at night and in West Hollywood. (which I did attend later that night still dressed as a morning person, and yes, was VERY much in the wrong type of costume)
And so, I hope my embarrassment can put a smile on your face because now I can say - it did become a funny story!
CHEERS TO MONDAY!
XOXO,
