OH ENGLAND

OH ENGLAND

Oh, England,

you green and pleasant land,

your beauty never ceases to instil

a calmness in my hands.

A sense of peace; contentment

within my wandering mind,

a fulfilling feast for longing eyes

that seem always looking behind.

The golden greens of your pastures

covering long and rolling hills,

the succulent scent of your flowers

tickling senses to smile at the thrill.

Ancient forests of lofty bark

so old and yet teeming with life,

bountiful branches that dance in the wind

telling tales of old in their sighs.

Striking coastlines and high cliff-tops,

some sand and some chalky white,

to the weary traveller returning from abroad,

an uplifting and welcoming sight.

As I travel this wide and wonderful world

through deserts of soft sand and snow,

towering mountains and valleys so rich

there is something that says “Time to go!”

For deep in my heart lies a longing

to return to the land I call home,

for she lies in the beat of my aching heart

no matter how far away I may roam.

I will always return to England;

to this green and pleasant land,

may I ever reside in her warming embrace

till the day that we walk hand in hand.

Indeed a glorious poem, Darren! Wonderful! Making my soul travel like a breath of light air over green Yorkshire Dales... Maidstone in Kent, the Garden England to the White Cliffs of Dover on a clear day. Thank you!!!
