Dear Readers,
The Ogoni Cleanup, spearheaded by the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), is a significant environmental remediation effort aimed at restoring polluted sites in Ogoniland, Nigeria. This project follows the UNEP report recommendations and involves multiple stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and the affected communities. Applying a Project Controls approach provides insights into the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and the status of key activities.
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) Overview
A structured WBS for the Ogoni Cleanup categorizes the project into key phases:
Project Activities and Status
Project Controls Metrics
To evaluate the project’s progress, we use key project controls methodologies such as Earned Value Management (EVM), Schedule Performance Index (SPI), and Cost Performance Index (CPI).
Challenges & Recommendations

1 周Beyond the Ogoni cleanup, Nigeria's oil & gas sector offers several projects that pose unique project controls challenges: 1. NLNG Train 7 – Managing timeline risks and contractor coordination. 2. Dangote Refinery – Tight cost control and progress tracking. 3. AKK Gas Pipeline – Overcoming logistical and supply chain hurdles. 4. Bonga SW/Aparo (Shell) – Coordinating offshore scheduling and local content. 5. Zabazaba Deepwater (Agip/Eni) – Navigating deepwater risk management. 6. Gbaramatu Gas Hub (Chevron & NNPC) – Streamlining interface management. 7. Egina FPSO (TotalEnergies) – Monitoring local fabrication milestones. 8. OB3 Gas Pipeline – Handling regulatory delays and resource allocation. I’ll dive deeper into each soon. Which do you think poses the toughest project controls challenge? #GeorgeNWOGU

1 周Love this. But as usual, Nigeria always fails to convert adversity into strength and opportunity. Ogoni cleanup should have birthed a cleanup and remediation center of excellence and a true fountain for patients and commercial products and services that the world will be after. Instead we made it an agency for fleecing the people of Ogoni and Nigeria . So sad
