OGC Honors Geospatial Leaders and Dedicated Contributors at OGC@30 Anniversary Event
During our recent OGC@30 anniversary event, we presented several high-profile awards recognizing outstanding individuals and organizations for their exceptional contributions to the geospatial community.?
Congratulations to the awardees for their remarkable achievements and commitment to interoperability and Open Standards. Their work embodies the spirit of collaboration and innovation that not only lies at the heart of OGC, but is essential for addressing global challenges and building a more sustainable future.
Welcoming C?te d’Ivoire’s BNETD to OGC
The BNETD-Bureau National d'études Techniques et de Développement (Eng: National Office of Technical Studies and Development), a key player in economic development, has joined OGC’s global community at the Principal level. BNETD assists the Government of C?te d’Ivoire and other countries in eastern sub-Saharan Africa with major economic development projects.
“BNETD’s membership in the Open Geospatial Consortium is a strategic move that significantly strengthens our technical capacity and enhances our influence within the West African region and more.” - Kinapara Coulibaly CEO, BNETD
Seeking Additional Sponsors for an AI-augmented Discrete Global Grid Systems Interoperability Initiative
OGC is seeking visionary organizations interested in supporting an interoperability initiative that?seeks to explore and demonstrate how systems using different DGGS grid designs can use OGC Standards to automatically exchange data, with a particular view on supporting disaster mapping.?
The Pilot will also investigate how DGGS systems can be enhanced with Standards-based AI/ML tools—such as AI chatbots for natural language queries and AI-driven insights for automated analysis and pattern detection—using a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approach that provides accurate, authoritative, hallucination-free responses. Applications close January 31.
A Recap of the 130th Member Meeting
The 130th OGC Member Meeting took place in Goyang, Republic of Korea, from November 4-8, 2024. Sponsored by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and the Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation (LX), the meeting was themed 'AI for Geo,' and provided members with insights into what’s happening at OGC, and how interoperable technologies are critical for tackling global challenges.

Thirty Years of OGC
Bill Dollins attended OGC's 30th anniversary, where he reflected on the importance of interoperability in geospatial technologies, facilitated by standards like the Simple Features Specification (SFS). He noted how these efforts have allowed geospatial tools to integrate seamlessly across various platforms, emphasizing the value of openness in the field.
3D Tiles on FOX Sports
FOX Sports uses Cesium for Unreal and 谷歌 Photorealistic 3D Tiles, built on the OGC 3D Tiles standard, to create virtual 3D cities for their broadcasts. This technology allows them to highlight game locations and immerse fans in a realistic and informative way.
