Offshore Wind Activity Ramping Up in Americas Region

Offshore wind is gaining momentum in the Americas, where the US is leading with one offshore wind farm in operation, three in the construction stage and more moving through the permitting system. With work on offshore wind policies and development already underway in Canada, Colombia and Brazil, the region now also has a new member joining the offshore wind club.

The Caribbean island of #Cura?ao, officially part of the Netherlands, is kicking off geophysical surveys with the aim of identifying sites that would be most suitable for the installation of #floatingwind turbines. This is part of the Government of Cura?ao/ Gobièrnu di Kòrsou 's plan to develop #greenhydrogen production using floating offshore wind.

In the US, the country's fourth commercial-scale #offshorewind farm is a step away from entering the construction stage. Today, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management announced that it had completed the environmental review of the 880 MW Revolution Wind project, which ?rsted and Eversource Energy plan to build in the federal waters off Rhode Island.

Outside the Americas, in the news today are updates from #Taiwan, where the 589 MW Changfang and Xidao project reached a major construction milestone, and the #UK, where first offshore surveys as part of the government's plan to auction off 4 GW of floating wind in the Celtic Sea have commenced off Wales and South West England.

The floating wind-related surveys now underway in both the UK and Cura?ao are being performed by Fugro .
