Ocean waste or offshore Renewable Energy source ?

Ocean waste or offshore Renewable Energy source ?

I recently added a comment on a post about the Mekong Delta film and I have had a few private messages asking me about the reference to me "giving away" the installations, Only now has it dawned on me what fellow "Linkers" might be thinking?

So let me be clear where some clarity may be needed.

I think we can all agree "The World" has a problem with Ocean & Beach waste?

I have simply applied some logic, made calculations from land based operations, combined these findings with my sound knowledge and experience in waste related industries, sourced the necessary equipment available and studied the current problems and expenses in the material handling of recycling operations.

I then looked at how "Mother Nature" works.

Waste that is not disposed of or collected correctly gets thrown to the ground, this then can get blown around, washed away or in some cases just discarded and dumped.

After studying and digesting the information I requested from Dr. Christian Schmidt at the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research the findings made clear in the report "Export of Plastic Debris by Rivers into the Sea" I started to understand how Mother Natures "disposal system" is actually assisting us and taking care of the most expensive parts of recycling;

Collection or delivery, separation procedures and storing.

Now working backwards from the dead turtle in a plastic bag on a beach, which died trying to eat a plastic bag thinking it was a jelly fish, a bag that had arrived from a waste gyre, which had previously formed from waste collecting in tidal flows, which first entered from one of the 10 major rivers that have been identified as contributing 90% of the estimated 8,000,000 tons per year, which washed down from smaller rivers in land, that got blown or thrown in a river, after you threw it on the floor !

I started to look at the most suitable and easiest interception point. (The river mouth or mouth's of those 10 major rivers).

The final pieces of this jigsaw was what is being washed out to sea......

The bulk being; Plastic's, wooden products, plant life (trees foliage) some cloth etc

My research found equipment to recycle just about everything floating, but Just collecting these items and bringing them ashore is where the operation starts to get expensive (Ask The Ocean Clean Up venture) !

Applied logic again;

I didnt look at the magnitude of the problem, I look at individual pieces of waste.

A spoon, a small pop bottle, a plastic crate, a wooden pallet, a tree, an overboard timber load, a steel container..... This list went on.

However, first I looked at size reduction for shipping and space on a ship, then it was soon realised that whilst reducing the size we would be turning the "waste" in to products.

All wood, "green related" waste can be reduced in size and processed into biomass fuel pellets.

Plastic gets granulated for resale and/or processed in to crude oil through a process called pyrolysis, the residue in the chamber is called carbon Blacks another commodity for sale. The crude oil is then processed in to a marine standard/quality fuel.

For combating the waste gyres I want to trial the World's first Ocean & Beach waste processing vessel extracting and processing 1500 tons per week. (£2500 per hour profit 24/7)

The 10 major rivers require a barrier catchment system and processing facility at each, this will stem the flow of 5 to 8,000,000 tons per year.

Financing the start up;

£5M for the ship, equipment and conversion.

£1.5M per river mouth set up

£22M Budget - but who should pay?

With freely collected and transported waste arriving at specific points being sorted and stored for free, gives me a free feed stock to work with, a stock that can be processed in to a profit.

I wanted to write an article about ocean waste being a new source for Offshore renewable energy, the bulk of ocean & beach waste can be extracted, sorted, separated and processed at sea in to biomass fuel pellets, crude oil and marine standard fuels.With 8M tons entering the oceans every year and the amounts of waste already "out there"

This is a multi billion dollar potential return whilst operating a much needed service.

However, my intention is "not for profit" but to help solve the ocean waste problem, this is why I am happy to "Give a way" the 10 river systems to the area and the very people who will benefit from them most.

The ship trials need expanding in to fleet development ( Dustbin lorries of the sea).

Every other area on the planet has some kind of refuse collection I believe each country should have at least one basic operating vessel and in times of disaster collectively we could respond with an armada.

The last piece of the jigsaw - NONE OF THIS RUBBISH IS MINE !

So who's is it and who should pay

Coca Cola the largest beverage manufacturer on the planet makes sense that they hold the majority in pop bottle waste

Unilever proudly state 2 billion customers use their product a day also makes sense they hold a majority stake in the waste.

McDonald's - serve 68,000,000 customers a day, via 36,000 stores, in 120+ countries.

Philip Morris - (Fag butts)

150 bottled water companies; ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_bottled_water_brands )

All Collectively and happily boast about multi billion dollars in profits.......

I believe that between these companies £22M is easy money to find almost "Petty cash" not even a days or hours profit !

So here is the rub,

Collectively finance the operation CEO to CEO's can soon speak to each other and make this happen or dont ? The result of not helping may delay the operation, but one way or another it will happen and if you have not helped financially,

I will just bring your rubbish back.........

The longer this takes to solve the deeper it sinks, and then I just cannot do it !

Ocean waste....but, please, let's "harvest" it with the veracity that we rip minerals from the land, until it's it's all gone!
