IS IT OFFSHORE CONTAINER?
Offshore Container: When we dealing with offshore operation either construction project or drilling, for sure we will find many container, it is utilized as lifted equipment or cargo carrying unit from shorebase to offshore facilities. As per standard, the offshore containers shall be designed, fabricated and tested as per DNV 2.7-1 or BS EN 12079, so we call the container as offshore container.
In fact, some container that were provide by contractor are modification from freight container by change or replace the corner casting as lifting point to be pad eyes. Further, the modified freight container was competed with 3rd party certification with addition note within the certificate “this container refer to DNV 2.7-1 or BS EN 12079. Is it acceptable? The answer is “NO” since they have different basis of design, fabricated and tested refer to the different working environment scheme. in simply we explain on slide below. But too often the container user and inspector do not realize the different.
