Offset flexible printing? What's the difference?

How to make better decisions:

Although both techniques are suitable for wet ink and printed plates, the two methods are different in terms of process and other factors. Technically, offset printing is a printing technology in which ink images are transferred from the printing plate to the rubber cloth and then to the printing substrate. Flexo printing transfers ink directly from the printing plate to the substrate.

Flexo printing and offset printing are common, but they perform different tasks. It is important to understand the roles they play and to have a clear understanding of these two types of printing processes. The type of printing press to be used depends on the final product and quality required, as well as on the quantity and substrate.

First, one of the biggest differences between the two printing processes is the type of plate they use:

Flexographic printing, A process of rotary printing using flexography. The plates are made from a photopolymer compound that is flexible enough to wrap around the printing drum. The relief image on the plate is fixed by a laser image setter, and the polymer without the image area is washed away in the processing unit and dissolved in a solvent or aqueous solution. The ink is transferred from the ink tank to the flexo plate by a rotating "screen" roller. Each color to be printed requires a separate printing station and flexo. The image is then printed directly onto the substrate. Printing plates are extremely durable and, if properly stored, can be reused many times before eventually needing replacement.

For offset printing, the ink is transferred to the plate through a series of rollers. This can be a flat or rotary process - depending on the type of offset press. The plate is usually made of aluminum. The full wet image (monochrome or polychrome) is then transferred to the "blanket" before drying and then to the substrate.
