Officers Knowing and Believing the price of VALUE

Officers Knowing and Believing the price of VALUE

Value of a Butterfly Effect

Think back to your childhood, or your schooling years, or early in your career. Did others treat you in a way that made you feel good or bad? And if they treated you badly, did you pass that same treatment on to others? If so, you created a negative Butterfly Effect.

?

If someone were to ask you later in life? What?Value?did you offer (or take away from) the public service profession what would you say?

Your?VALUE?becomes your life-story. How you make a difference for yourself, the profession, and within the community you serve becomes your story.

“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.” ~Albert Einstein

?

Ask Yourself this...?Do you 'Value' you?

Three (3) questions to ask Yourself on Value:

  1. Do you waste time listening to toxic employees, or are You that toxic employee that finds fault in everything?
  2. Do you have personal goals on what You want to achieve in life?
  3. Are you a mentor to others, helping the agency build morale… or are you bringing it down?

We recently taught a Leadership and Trainer's Class in Worcester, Massachusetts. Typically in the beginning of class, most are thinking, "this will be just another brow-beating class that offers zero Value." Until they realize what the officer below realized... "THIS is about ME, and I need to VALUE Me in a different way". Watch and Share...

VALUE?means?a person's principles or standards of behavior; one's judgment of what is important in life.

?

For you to help others as a public servant, and bring value to your community, you must first know your own personal?VALUES?of what is important within yourself.

?

As part of improving Your own wellness, you must take time to self-reflect on these (3) valued components.

  1. How do you value yourself?
  2. Are you cognizant of your time?
  3. Are you aware of your actions at work and home?

?

When you?VALUE?yourself, you won’t waste time?listening to toxic co-workers?~ Linda Webb

Learn to 'PIVOT' from the naysayers that complain how bad the agency is. Learning to Pivot will add Value to you as a key employee that loves and cares about the profession and the agency.

?

Public Servants (police, fire, ems, corrections) are exposed to daily traumatic situations that will cause one to lose focus of their OWN PERSONAL VALUE. Repetitive cynical and negative thoughts will slowly deteriorate your own officer mental wellness. As your mental wellness depreciates so does your focus on what is important to you. It can even cloud your judgement on-the-job, forcing you to make bad decisions, and lead to?‘block-out syndrome’?where you could harm yourself or others.

?

As Officers we lose focus on personal value when we:

  1. Listen to Toxic co-workers
  2. Become entitled - the?Entitlement Complex?…. ‘It’s all about ME’
  3. Self-Sabotage through addiction – Alcohol, Bad Eating Habits, Financial Instability, Divorce
