Downtown double-down
Everyone knows that ever since Covid, downtown office buildings are a bad investment, right? Well, almost everyone. Apparently nobody told that to Dave Greaney, the founder and CEO of Synergy, a Boston-based real estate investment firm.
Since interest rates spiked in mid-2022, only four buildings of at least 100,000 square feet have sold — all of them to Synergy. Greaney got three of them at a major discount to their pre-Covid sale prices.
Greaney’s real estate investment calculus includes a belief in the relevance of in-person work. Senior Reporter Greg Ryan recently interviewed Greaney to hear his views on Boston's office market and his strategy.

Layoffs hit GBH
On Wednesday, I reported that GBH (the public TV and radio station formerly known as WGBH) laid off 31 employees in an attempt to address a $7 million budget gap. The organization also suspended production of three of its television shows — Greater Boston, Talking Politics, and Basic Black. The layoffs came two days after the general manager of GBH News, Pam Johnston, told her staff that she'll be leaving at the end of the month.

TD Garden leans into concerts
Next Tuesday, thousands of Celtics fans will file into TD Garden for Tuesday's Eastern Conference Finals matchup. But in the following weeks, thousands more will attend a variety of concerts, from Melanie Martinez to Janet Jackson to Justin Timberlake. The Garden expects to host 90 non-sporting events this year, a record number for the venue. Trajan Warren talks to the TD Garden's president about the surge in music at the storied sports venue.
