The Office Furniture Super Bowl

Earlier this summer, Bloomberg’s Matt Boyle went to Chicago for NeoCon, the annual gathering of office-furniture makers, dealers, architects and building managers. "In all cases, fossil fuel commutes damage the environment. Since North American offices are often in large metro areas, commute times can easily be 1 or 1.5 hours. This is detrimental for the ecosphere. After such a commute, S _ _ employees will arrive stressed and less productive, by any measure. Yes, people will be in one place but most often they will not be the people required for our roles. Being in a building doesn't equal productivity. We understand S _ _ has expensive leases that no longer make sense in 2024. Even before COVID, many tech employees worked remote because it's efficient, costs less and is a low-cost benefit for employees who want work/life balance, more time with family, more exercise, better nutrition and health etc... Unfortunately, if this RTO effort is designed to pressure some employees out of the company, some of those who leave will not be the ones the board may actually want to leave. Now that the majority of the workforce is irritated, isn't it reasonable to assume that there will be unpleasant and unintended consequences?"
