OESAI Virtual Annual Conference

On the 23rd of October we get together for the annual conference of The Organisation for Eastern and Southern Africa Insurers. We might not be able to meet each other face to face but after months of lockdown, everyone is eager to catch up with old friends and colleagues virtually.

This event usually moves from country to country every year and is an opportunity for each country to show off its own beauty, character and culture. This year will therefore be a multi-country experience with a focus on the virtual. Very fitting for a year where technology was came to our rescue, where people adapted to working from home and meet online on a daily basis.

I was delegated the task of putting together the "Digital Innovation in Insurance" panel. My favourite topic at this stage of development in the industry, especially the African continent. Fintech and Insurtech innovation on the continent is the most exciting on the planet, with innovations popping up in the most unexpected places.

I have put together a strong panel to tackle a very diverse topic. We intend to show what can be done with the right mindset and how to get there, with questions such as how do you develop a culture of innovation, where do you start and what to take into account when starting on the digitisation route.
