OEE : Do Not Neglect the Team

OEE : Do Not Neglect the Team

Every week countless articles surface on the power of overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and the production benefits that comes with it. This number reveals your plant’s true productivity by measuring how long your machines are running, how much product you are making, and how many of those products meet established quality standards. In other words, it uncovers invisible machine losses. The vast majority of guides identify difficulty in obtaining data as the main barrier to not adopting OEE successfully within manufacturing plants.

"Improving OEE can be difficult without the right data to guide you"

This is true. There is however an even bigger factor. The people that use it.

For OEE to be a true indication of production efficiency, it must have team buy in. OEE and performance monitoring should not be threatening but rather show opportunity. It should be used as an instrument for a team to track down inefficiencies and generate real improvements.

"Only 6% of all problems can be directly attributed to people. The other 94% are the result of the system in which these people work" - Dr W.E. Deming
