An ode to Souls

An ode to Souls

On Feb. 25 - one week from today - a game called Elden Ring will be released.

It is the latest in a series of challenging games that started almost exactly 13 years ago - back in 2009.

The series is commonly referred to as 'The Souls Games'.

I was introduced to them in 2012 - through the most popular game in the series, Dark Souls.

In the 10 years since, my fandom has only grown, especially with each new game release.

Thankfully, there have been several - about one every two years!

Anyways, my next several articles will celebrate this series:

  • Its hauntingly calming music
  • Its poetic names of places
  • Its ballet-like boss battles
  • Its richly-detailed characters
  • Its ridiculous competitions
  • And many other games who since joined the sub-genre that Souls re-introduced

Not a gamer? That's ok.

In fact, you won't find must gamer-speak.

Instead, I hope you'll discover what makes these games - and the best games available today - feel more like an experience than a combination of levels filled with weapons and enemies.
