The Odds are Stacked Against You!

The Odds are Stacked Against You!

Stack Overflow was grouchy about people posting ChatGPT-produced replies on the discussion platform. Initially, it shook its head and warned them, but later announced a blanket ban on the chatbot citing high inaccuracies in the answers.?

Many speculated that Stack Overflow was spooked since ChatGPT could produce instant answers and could potentially make the platform redundant. It seems that the fear was justified, after all. Users are leaving the discussion forum.?

Based on?SimilarWeb reports, it appears that following the launch of ChatGPT in November, the number of website visits reduced by 12% from 279 million to 247 million in December. While a slight increase was registered in January, the number tumbled even lower in February, down to 239 million. These figures indicate that the release of ChatGPT may have had an impact on website traffic during this period.

Users are choosing convenience over peer reviewing as they get immediate responses on ChatGPT instead of going to Stack Overflow and explaining every single step of the problem. While the two are in stiff competition, they also share a deep one-sided relationship — ChatGPT is trained on all of Stack Overflow’s data. This also explains why the chatbot’s code results sometimes go awry.?

But OpenAI has cracked a solution to the problem of unreliability. The?Code interpreter plugin?on ChatGPT has made it possible for developers to verify their codes on the chatbot.?

What now? Is the Stack Overflow community doomed? Not really. The nature of the platform, a discussion forum, will keep it alive for people who seek to engage in discussions, unlike the straight answer ChatGPT gives out.?

The Journey of AI Humans

ChatGPT, Midjourney, BingChat and other generative AI platforms are showing what AI looks like in the real sense. Marching ahead, AI researchers are now exploring the idea of artificial general intelligence or AGI and its impact on humanity. The topic is so engrossing that even Lex Fridman found himself discussing it with OpenAI chief Sam Altman.?

Though Altman wasn’t sure if he would build AGI, he said he aims to build a technology that would make humans great. This will probably be called ‘AI human’, which in turn would help train these systems through?RLHF?to upgrade itself, thus becoming a link between AI and AGI and later ASI.

Only Labour-intensive Work will Survive

The threat of job loss is scaling higher as AI grows in capability. Recently, Goldman Sachs published a report based on the US and European data highlighting that AI technology would boost global GDP by 7%. On the downside, however, it added that it would also affect about 300 million jobs across major economies.?

Interestingly, the report states that while administrative and legal professions will have high exposure to the risk, maintenance and construction workers will be least impacted by it.

Adobe Firefly’s Low Fly?

Last month, Adobe launched Firefly, a generative AI image platform like Midjourney. Errr… Not like Midjourney, because Adobe Firefly became a laughing stock when its images came out. The platform was unable to produce anywhere close to commands.?

However, the low quality of images can be justified as Adobe’s approach to avoiding copyrighted content may have resulted in a product inferior to Midjourney. Besides, image generation only reflects one of the capabilities of Adobe Firefly, with the illustrated use-case only showing its text-to-image capabilities. In reality, Firefly is a?portal?for testing features that will eventually be integrated into Adobe products like Photoshop and Premiere Pro.?
